Cloud-hosted No-SQL databases take the hassle out of operating your own No-SQL database. This is one of the more recent types of cloud services, and many web developers may still prefer to run their database on a host that they are in control of. I have found that cloud-hosted databases are typically slower than having the database run on your own hosts, however this may only be the case for relatively small databases. Once you are dealing with datasets that are so large that a cluster of machines becomes necessary, then a cloud provider can really help you out by performing the often comples configuration and maintenance chores (such as ensuring proper backups and hot-swappable spare machines).
